Calcium boost for plants.

Calcium boost for plants.

This is the best solution for tomato , capsicum plants which are producing fruits with BER (Blossom End Rot). In this case , fruits are developed with rotten (brown) base.

This condition is caused by
1) Ca deficiency in the soil
2) inability of the plant to take up soil Ca mainly due to irregular irrigation.
After confirming proper irrigation , the next thing is, to apply water soluble ( plant available) Ca into the soil.  Eggshell is the cheapest source of Calcium. Unfortunately, this Calcium is not readily plant available.

How to apply Egg shell to soil.

Collect egg shells , dry it thoroughly and store it in powdered form.

Procedure for applying eggshell to 1 plant in a container.

Take 1 tea spoon of egg shell powder in a small container. Add approximately 5 tea spoons of fresh vinegar. You ll see bubbles coming to the surface. Leave this mixture for at least half an hour to complete the reaction. ( or till the bubbles are surfacing)

Add 10 times water and apply to the base of the plant or spray on the leaves of affected plant.

It is noted that the vinegar whose initial pH is about 3.5 (acidic) rises to 7 (neutral) after the reaction with eggshell.

The reaction is: CaCO3+ 2H+ -> Ca+2 + H2O +CO2
