Vinegar Making DIY with Pineapple scrapes

Take a wide mouthed large glass bottle.
Fill it 2/3rd  with pineapple scrapes.
Fill the remaining portion of the bottle with water**. Please remember to leave 2 inches empty from the top to take care of the emerging  froth.

Cover the bottle mouth with cloth so that air exchange happens.
Within few minutes, bubbles start to surface. This continues for 2 days. Open the cover twice a day to check, if the froth has reached the top or is overflowing.
Keep it this way for a week.
At the end of the week, separate the pineapple pieces for composting.

The remaining liquid is again filled back in the bottle for secondary fermentation. It is kept this way, for at least 45 more days. By that time, the pH will drop to about 3.5 (checked with pH paper) and this is the Vinegar.

(Vinegar in the making with ‘vinegar mother' on the top surface (this is normal). This can be used as starter for next batch of vinegar.)

Uses of this Vinegar

  1. Liquid Cleaner
  2. To dissolve egg shells, so that Ca (calcium) is made plant-available immediately. (To be applied to plants by diluting at least 10 times.) This is very useful, in case of BER (Blossom End Rot) disease in Tomato.

Please note –
** instead of filling with plain water, you can use sugar water (about 3 tea-spoons of sugar for a liter of water)

Please remember that this is a natural process, so there are no exact measurements. The nature is very forgiving, it will take care of the deviations.
There are many ways of vinegar making. Each one is correct. Use whatever material you  have in plenty.
This is truly the 'Best out of Waste'.
